Petaluma Health Center struggled with both ordering mammograms and patients completing mammograms.
The center’s breast cancer screening rate was less than 40 percent — less than both state and local rates. Of the patients who had orders for mammography, only about one third of those patients completed the screening study. After it was awarded a CHC Innovation Challenge grant to investigate barriers to breast cancer screening, the center partnered with its local hospital’s radiology department to streamline screening for our patients. In just one year, Petaluma Health Center now has a breast cancer screening rate of more than 66 percent!
