Spreading & Sustaining Trauma Informed Pediatric Care: It Takes a Team

On September 21, 2023, after not being able to gather for the first 2 (of 3) years, community members from the Resilient Beginnings Network (RBN) gathered together for an all-day final convening in person at the Hilton Oakland Airport.

The participants from the 15 organizations in RBN had the opportunity to meet each other in the network, celebrated the individual and collective achievement in the efforts to make pediatric care more trauma- and resilience-informed, and identified key steps for sustaining and spreading this work.

It was a day to reflect on what had been accomplished and learned in this program, to attend learning workshops, hear from pediatric care teams, and to strategize around how to sustain the work to benefit children and their families for years to come. The convening also welcomed RBN coaches and faculty, who led workshops on trauma informed communication, undoing racism, and promoting healing through repair and accountability.

By the end of the convening, the RBN community…

  • Recognized and celebrated individual and collective work through this three-year program,
  • Explored what each team and organization can do to deepen their work in RBN,
  • Connected with peers to advance trauma- and resilience-informed work by sharing challenges and lessons learned, and
  • Identified key steps for sustaining and spreading the Resilient Beginnings work.

During this workshop, Trauma Transformed introduced the 3 M’s Framework to support you in making your communication more trauma-informed. Participants had an opportunity to practice the framework using case studies related to clinic scenarios.
