Courtney Pladsen is the Mainecare (Medicaid) Medical Director in the State of Maine. She was the Clinical Director at the National Health Care for the Homeless Council and led the development of Maine’s first medical respite program. Courtney Pladsen has worked in the healthcare safety net for over fifteen years in emergency departments and federally qualified health centers.
Witnessing social barriers to care cause poor health outcomes fuels her fight to end homelessness. While she continues to practice one day a week at Greater Portland Health’s Health Care for the Homeless Clinic, Courtney is passionate about improving health systems to provide equitable care for the most marginalized individuals in our community.
Courtney received her undergraduate degree from Boston College and her Masters and Doctoral degrees from Georgetown University where her research explored screening. and addressing social determinants of health in primary care. From 2018 to 2022, she was a fellow with the RWJF Culture of Health Leaders program.
