There are three ways to work with CCI: Capacity Building Initiatives, Advising and Consulting, and Ecosystem Development. They aren’t a ladder, and most partners move between them over time, but each one meets you at a different moment and asks something different of you.
We work alongside you to test, adapt, and operationalize new approaches in real-world settings, so the skills and systems become part of how you work.
This is intensive work. When you join a CCI capacity building initiative, you’re entering a structured, cohort-based experience that builds real capability over months, sometimes years. We work alongside safety-net leaders and teams to strengthen the skills, confidence, and systems it takes to make meaningful changes in how care is delivered and experienced. The goal is always the same: improvements that show up in outcomes, and that the people inside the organization can carry forward on their own.
Depending on where you are and what you need, that might be a small-cohort accelerator that takes a promising practice and builds the evidence for it to spread. It might be a learning network that connects you with peers who share your role or your challenge, so you’re not figuring it out alone. It might be a structured collaborative where your team puts new frameworks into practice, tracks progress with data, and produces measurable improvement over a defined period. Or it might be an initiative built to take what’s already working somewhere and help it reach where it’s needed next.

When the work calls for it, CCI shows up as a thought partner, coach, and implementation ally. Our coaches and subject matter experts work for those who need safety-net-specific knowledge and practical support to move faster, go deeper, or navigate something genuinely hard. This is responsive, contextual, and built around the problem you’re actually trying to solve.
That support takes different shapes depending on what you need. Sometimes CCI is embedded as a faculty member, coach, or design partner inside a large-scale initiative led by a funder, public agency, or peer organization, bringing our frameworks and safety-net lens to strengthen the effort. Sometimes a Health Center Controlled Network or regional collaborative brings us in to build capability across their member organizations, on topics like population health management or AI strategy. Sometimes a single organization needs tailored support on a specific challenge, whether that’s data governance or navigating a major policy shift like CalAIM. And sometimes CCI serves as the backbone for a field coalition, gathering members, surfacing what they’re experiencing, and translating their collective intelligence into something policymakers can use.
Whatever the entry point, the goal is the same: help you build what lasts, not just get through the immediate problem.

This is CCI’s open door, the widest entry point into our work, where the field comes together to learn, connect, and think out loud about what’s hardest right now. Whether you’re new to CCI or a longtime partner, there is always something here for you.
What that looks like depends on the moment. We bring the people together for summits designed not to deliver answers but to hold space for the hard questions. We run virtual learning series where practitioners explore emerging topics with peers facing the same challenges. We design tailored gatherings for organizations working through a specific implementation challenge together, the kind of practitioner-to-practitioner problem-solving that happens when the right people are finally in the same room.
And sometimes the work goes deeper than a single gathering. With our funding partners, CCI brings cross-sector actors into the same room — safety-net providers, community-based organizations, managed care plans, philanthropy, and community members with lived experience — to map shared challenges, surface what coordination could actually move, and co-design responses together. What gets built in those rooms doesn’t stay in those rooms. CCI captures what was learned and helps it spread.
